PM Modi Speaks To Putin, Appeals For An Immediate End To Violence

PM Modi also discussed Concerns Regarding Indian Citizens!


On Thursday, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin appealed for an immediate end to violence and urged all parties to return to the path of diplomatic negotiations.



According to the statement, PM Modi “sensitised the Russian President about India’s concerns regarding the safety of the Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students, and conveyed that India attaches the highest priority to their safe exit and return to India."



Further, the statement read, Putin briefed Modi on recent developments regarding Ukraine, and the prime minister “reiterated his long-standing conviction that the differences between Russia and the NATO group can only be resolved through honest and sincere dialogue”, the statement said.



The Prime Minister also discussed India's concerns regarding the safety of Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students. India, he said, attaches the highest priority to their safe exit and return. The leaders agreed that their officials and diplomatic teams would continue to maintain regular contacts on issues of topical interest," the statement added.



On Thursday, Russia started military operations against Ukraine after months of tension over the former Soviet republic's proximity to NATO. Around 136 military personnel and civilians have been reported dead during this war and 316 are injured after the first day of operations in Ukraine.



According to the Russian Defense Ministry, it said that they destroyed 74 above-ground military infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, including 11 aerodromes. Ukraine said Russia had carried out 203 attacks since the day began.
