PM Modi to attend Visva-Bharti' Centenary Celebrations.

Centenary Celebration of Visva-Bharati University with PM Modi virtually.

Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore founded the Visva-Bharti University, Shantiniketan in 1921 is the oldest Central University of India. The university will be hosting its centenary celebrations on December 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the students and faculty members of the university on the centenary celebration via video conferencing at 11 am. The Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar and the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pohkriyal will also attend the prime occasion along with the prime minister.

The Visva-Bharati was declared to be a central university and ‘an institute of national importance’ in May 1951 by an Act of Parliament. A training technique which was developed by Tagore himself was followed by the university initially and gradually it evolved in a format on which modern universities developed later on. In a statement issued by the university it said that the Prime Minister is the Chancellor of the university.

Today PM Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of the Aligarh Muslim University and he also released a postal stamp during the virtual addressing of the occasion. This also the first time ever that PM Modi participated in an AMU programme.
