Construction of IIM Sambalpur Campus

The officials on Thursday announced that Prime Minister will lay the foundations of permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur Odisha virtually on 2 January 2021. The construction work of the campus will reach to end in April 2020 and will witness a fully equipped state of art structure with energy efficient green features as per standards laid by GRIHA, said by director of IIM Sambalpur, Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal. This will be a significant step in uplifting the Education infrastructure of India, widening the scope of opportunities and reach of knowledge to deserving and determined youth. The design of campus will aim to instill sense of belongingness and perspective among the students, Mr. Jaiswal added.

The permanent campus will encompass techniques and strategies to harness renewable energy and undertake green practices for welfare of the environment. The rich cultural heritage and art of Odisha will also be incorporated in the campus to celebrate the glory of the state's aesthetics. GRIHA is a rating tool which measures performance of building under some nationally accepted dimensions. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Navin Patnaik, Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and other dignitaries will grace the occasion with their presence.

The ceremony will be joined by 5000 invitees virtually including dignitaries from Central and State governments, industry leaders, PSU Executives, directors of IIMs, IITs and IISERs. 200 acres of land has been alloted for the construction of campus, while Education Ministry extended administrative support and financial grant Rs 401.97 crore for the project as highlighted by Prof Jaiswal.

The professor firmly stated that IIM Sambalpur will be the first ever IIM to adopt flipped classroom, which will provide a learning environment to comprehend basic concepts digitally and live demonstration of industrial design through working projects will be inculcated to train budding minds. To uphold the idols of National Education Policy, inclusiveness will be the key factor driving the spirit of IIM Sambalpur. The inclusivity and acceptance in terms of both gender and economic status has been achieved in this IIM over years. The institute has overpowered other IIMs in terms of gender diversity in the 2019-21 MBA Batch with 49% women and 2020-22 batch with 43% women.
