PM Modi To Meet Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih

Two leaders will hold Talks...

On Tuesday, 02 August 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in Delhi. The two leaders will hold talks on various topics following which the two sides are expected to sign a number of agreements.

Solih is on a four-day visit to India and arrived in the national capital on Monday.

The visit comes weeks after the Union cabinet led by PM Modi approved a pact for judicial cooperation between India and Maldives. The pact will provide a platform to tap the benefits of Information Technology for court digitization and could be a potential growth area for IT companies and start-ups in both countries.

On Monday, Solih held a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. After the meeting, Jaishankar said India's 'Neighborhood First' policy and the Maldives' 'India First' policy are "complementary" and they take the special partnership forward.

The Maldives is one of India's key maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean Region and the overall bilateral ties including in areas of defense and security, have been on an upward trajectory in the past few years.

Solih had earlier visited India in 2018 on his first overseas tour after becoming the President.
