PM Narendra Modi unveiled the new national Emblem

The metal sculpture is built in Aurangabad, Jaipur and Delhi by Sunil Deore and Lakshman Vyas

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new national emblem he has been designing for a while. The new National Emblem has been placed on the top of the new Parliament building in a special ceremony which was attended by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and Union Housing Minister Hardeep Puri.

However, the ceremony triggered political chaos, as the opposition accused PM Narendra Modi of trying to make the ceremony a personal event and questioned the constitutional propriety of the PM unveiling the national emblem on top of the Parliament building.

Bhartiya Janata Party in response to the opposition said, that their accusations are politically motivated and hold no ground.

The New emblem has been built in three states: Aurangabad, Delhi and Jaipur. Artists Sunil Deore and Lakshman Vyas worked on the new metal sculpture. The previous design incorporated a spire on top and was then replaced in 2020 with the Ashoka Emblem.

Prime Minister’s office in a statement said, “He also interacted with the Shramjeevis involved in the work of the new parliament”.

The new Parliament’s work, a ground plus two-storey triangular-shaped building is expected to be finished before the winter Parliament session. Similarly, the earlier design incorporated a spire on the top of the building, which is now replaced with the Ashoka Emblem.

“The concept sketch and process of casting of the national emblem on the roof of new Parliament building has gone through eight different stages of preparation from clay modeling/computer graphic to bronze casting and polishing,” said the Prime Minister’s office in a statement.

The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla tweeted his appreciation of the sculpture as he said, “Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in inaugurated the national emblem installed on the top of the new building of Parliament. While the new Parliament House will fulfil the aspirations of a new India, this national symbol will continue to inspire us to keep the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India intact”.
