PM Security Breach: SC To Hear The Issue

The hearing will be held tomorrow.


New Delhi: After Prime Minister's security breach that happened while heading to Hussainiwala in Punjab, the incident has reached the walls of the Supreme Court. The SC with the matter is likely to be heard tomorrow. Meanwhile, the state has set up a team to investigate and file a report in three days.

Taking notes from the incident, the Supreme Court’s been asked to hold the Punjab Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Police responsible and suspend them pending departmental action. "It has to be ensured this doesn't happen again," the petitioner said.

Chief Justice NV Ramana told the petitioner to file a copy with the state. According to the official statement of the CJI Ramana said, that the hearing of this issue will be held tomorrow.

The Cong. led Punjab Govt. are facing fierce attacks from the BJP leaders, the incident just took place months before the upcoming assembly polls.

Justice Mehtab Gill, a retired judge, and Anurag Verma, Principal Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, will submit a report within three days.

According to the Govt. sources, President Ram Nath Kovind expressed his concern over the incident and will meet Prime Minister Modi shortly.

This morning the Home Ministry criticized Punjab Police for failing to prepare a contingency route for the PM's visit, in line with protocol. This was necessary given existing Intel about protesting farmers in the area, a ministry official said. Normally the SPG remains near the Prime Minister while state police sanitize routes and check for possible threats in the area.

"As per the Blue Book, the state police has to prepare a contingency route for the protectee in case of any adverse situation like the one in Punjab during the PM's visit," an official from the Home Ministry told the news agency ANI.
