PM To Inaugurate Second Campus of Kolkata's CNCI

Inauguration to take place via video conferencing


On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata.

 

According to the tweet, on Thursday, PM Modi tweeted, the inauguration program for the CNCI campus will take place at 1 pm. “This institute will augment healthcare capacities in eastern India and the northeast,” 

 

According to the information given by the Prime minister's office (PMO), the inauguration will take place via video conferencing today. This additional campus has been built in line with PM Modi's vision to enhance and promote health facilities in all parts across the Country. The PMO mentions that CNCI was confronting a heavy load of Cancer Patients. Demand for expansion was being felt for some time, and the second campus will accomplish it.

 

As per the information, Rupees 400 crore was given by the Union Government and the rest by the West Bengal government in a ratio of 75:25. The facility will work as a progressive career research facility and provide comprehensive care to cancer patients. The campus is a 460 bed comprehensive Cancer center unit with cutting-edge infrastructure for cancer diagnosis, staging, therapy, and care. The campus has new facilities like Nuclear Medicine (PET), 3.0 Tesla MRI, 128 slice CT scanner, Radionuclide therapy unit, endoscopy suite, modern brachytherapy units, etc. 

 

This will be the first inauguration event that the Prime Minister will take part in following the reported security breach in Punjab on January 5 that led to the cancellation of his scheduled visit to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala and also laying the foundation stone of several developmental projects worth over ?42,750 crores in Ferozepur.
