PM to launch Ujjwala 2.0 today

The launch will be done via video conferencing. UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep S Puri will also be present on the occasion.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will launch Ujjwala 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana -PMUY) from the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh at 12:30 pm. The launch will be done via video conferencing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep S Puri will also be present on the occasion.

As per the information from the official release of the Prime Minister's office (PMO), PM Modi will interact with five beneficiaries of the the first phase of the Ujjwala scheme and will also address the nation.

The Ujjwala 1.0 was launched in the year 2016 with an aim to provide Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections to five crore women who were below poverty line (BPL) whereas this scheme was also expanded in 2018 to include women beneficiaries from seven more categories (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, most backward class, tea garden, Forest dwellers, islands).

Meanwhile, Ujjwala 2.0 will provide the first refill and hotplate free of cost to the beneficiaries. The enrollment procedure will require paperwork. Migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof, instead a self-declaration and family declaration will be submitted as address proof.
