PMO is likely to review coal crisis today amid outage concerns

The Prime MInister's Office (PMO) on Tuesday is likely to review the situation of coal stocks at thermal power stations amid outage concerns and power supply disruptions. Several states have raised the issue of shortage of coal leading to power cuts.

Home MInister Amit Shah on Monday met Pralhad Joshi and RK Singh to discuss the current situation. The Centre had so far denied any shortage in coal stocks and had assured that there is enough coal to meet the demands of power plants.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also raised concerns over the depletion of coal stocks and had warned of blackout in the national capital if the stocks were not replenished. The Chief Minister on Monday had said that the situation in the entire country is "very critical."

Other than Delhi states like Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh have also raised concerns over the issue.
