Police Shuts Roads In Delhi, Day After Tractor Rally Violence

Roads routes in Delhi restricted by Delhi Police after the tractor rally violence.

An advisory was issued on Wednesday morning during the peak traffic hours when Delhi residents struggle to reach their offices. The ITO junction near the Headquarters of Delhi Police has been closed with barricades on all sides, this information was given in the advisory that was issued by the Delhi Traffic Police. The advisory further read that “The route from Minto road to Connaught Place has been closed please avoid using this route.”

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shut down all the exits and entries to the Lal Qila metro station which is the nearest metro station to the Red Fort where a contingent of farmers placed a religious flag of the Sikh after entering the Red Fort forcefully despite limitation. The DMRC in a tweet from its official handle said, “The entry gates of Jama Masjid Metro station are closed, average waiting time at Saket station is 35 minutes. In case of any fluctuations in crowd the waiting time will be informed accordingly.

The roads linking Delhi with Ghaziabad which includes the Ghazipur Mandi road, NH-9 and NH-24 are some of the roads that the Delhi Police has also closed. In a tweet by the Delhi Traffic Police it stated “People commuting from Delhi to Ghaziabad are advised to go via Shahdara, Karkari Mor and DND flyway.” It also added that the traffic movements on Vikas Marg, Delhi Gate and ISBT Anand Vihar towards Uttar Pradesh are now normal.

All these steps by the Delhi police are taken in view of heightened security just a day after a clash broke out in some parts of the capital city during the protesting farmers’ Republic Day tractor rally that left one farmer dead and at least 86 police personnel injured during the clash.
