Wladyslaw Franoszek Matuszewski arrested in Tamil Nadu


Polish National identified as Wladyslaw Franoszek Matuszewski was arrested in Tamil Nadu, as the locals found him wandering around the villages close to Kodiyakarai in Nagapattinam district. The villagers found him roaming around on Sunday and informed the authorities.

 

The Police on Monday reported that Matuszewski, a 40-year-old Polish national entered India illegally via Sri Lanka without any proper documentation. After the local Nagapattinam police arrested him, he was presented before a court and sent to Puzhal jail. 

 

He was transported to Chennai on Monday and the state police have even informed the union home ministry about the foreign national arrest. Jawahar an official reported that “The man did not have a passport.

 

He has entered (India) via sea on an inflated boat,” Nagapattinam district superintendent of police G Jawahar told HT. “He has been in Sri Lanka since 2019. He got arrested in some cases. So, he says he doesn’t have his passport. He was planning to go to Chennai and then to the Polish embassy in Delhi so that he could return to Poland”. 

 

The Villagers tipped the police about the accused foreigner with an inflated boat near Kodiyakarai (Point Calimere) in Vedaranyam district on Sunday. So, Jawahar the same official said, “So, we immediately started intensive search operations and heightened security in the coastal areas, we found the kayak first”. He also informed that he was doubtful that the man could have reached all the way from Sri Lanka on an inflated boat alone. The officials suspect he might have been dropped off by a motorised boat halfway through
