Pomfret Pulimunchi, a healthy and mouth watering treat for the weekend!!

The weekend is here, and we all wish to enjoy at a luxurious beachside resort, spend quality time with yummy and healthy food, sipping on a mocktail and enjoying the fresh air. But as we know, the truth is we are stuck at home without any hope of venturing outside in near future. But if you can't go on vacation , then you can at least bring the vacation food home. So, behold dear, because from the shores of Mangalore, we bring to you a delicious fish recipe, soaked in all the coastal flavours - Pomfret Pulimunchi.

The succulent Pomfret is a great option with as a curry dish as well as with Biryani and neer dosa. But there is nothing that could beat the taste of a simple Pomfret fry, it is easy to cook, has a crisp and smokey taste on the outside and is juicy on the inside. The pomfret fish is also a package of nutrition and Vitamins like A, B, and D which is very important for a healthy skin and hair .

Cooking steps

  • Make a light gash on both sides of the fish.
  •  Prepare the marination paste, with a mixture of salt, pinch of haldi and red chilli powder. Also add some drops of lime juice.
  •  Put this marination all over the fish properly and also stuff the gash too, so that the flavours go deep. Refrigerate for 30 mins.
  • Put pre-soaked red chilli, garlic, remaining haldi and paprika powder, salt, asafoetida, jeera powder, black pepper and tamarind pulp in the grinder and grind it to make a fine paste.
  • Take the fish out from the fridge and apply the second coat of marination on it and leave it for 15 mins.
  • Now in a pan heat coconut oil or mustard oil as per your choice, fry the fish for 5 mins on each side on a low flame, make sure it should be light-brown in color.
  •  Once fish get ready then take out and put remaining marination paste and cook the gravy until it starts leaving oil.
  • Finally put the fried fish in a platter, coat it with gravy and puts some coriander leaves  and half a piece of lemon on it and serve hot.
