Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a two-day visit to Bangladesh

Two-day trip to Bangladesh to take part in the celebrations of National Neighbouring Day on March 26.


The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Bangladesh at the invitation of his colleague Sheikh Hasina to take part in the celebrations of National Neighbouring Day on March 26.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said his visit to Bangladesh this week, his first international trip after the outbreak of Covid-19 would serve to emphasize India's support for economic success and development in neighbouring countries.

In a statement issued the day before his two-day visit to the country, Modi said he was pleased that his first international visit since the outbreak would be "in our friendly neighbour country, where India shares deep cultural, linguistic, and human relations."

"My visit will not only be a time to convey an awareness of Bangladesh's amazing economic and developmental initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, but also to dedicate itself to India's ongoing support for these achievements," he said. "I will also express my support for India's unity in Bangladesh’s fight against Covid-19," he added. Modi said he was looking forward to participating in the National Day celebrations, which will also mark the centenary of the birth of "Bangabandhu" Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the Bangladesh tribe.

He said On Monday, India announced that the 2020 Gandhi Peace Prize would be awarded to a Bangladeshi leader for his "significant and unparalleled contribution" to the promotion of Bangladesh's independence. "
