Priyanka Gandhi tweets viral Lakhimpur video; "Have you seen this?" asks PM Modi

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained on Monday while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted the viral video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident where an SUV can be seen running over protesters and put up questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit to Lucknow. Ms Gandhi was detained on Monday while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri. She alleged that she was detained without any arrest warrant for over 24 hours by the Uttar Pradesh government and was mishandled by the cops.

Ms Gandhi asked the prime minister a few questions, “Have you seen this video?" She held a mobile phone showing a video where a jeep could be seen running over a group of farmers from behind. She claimed the video was from the incident site. "Why hasn’t this man been arrested? Leaders like us who want to visit Lakhimpur Kheri have been put under custody without any FIR, I want to know why this man is free?” Ms Gandhi further asked.

Ms Gandhi asked the prime minister why Union Minister of state for Home Ajay Mishra Teni has not been sacked yet. The farmers have alleged that the Union Minister's son was part of the convoy of which the vehicle mowed down the farmers in Tikonia of Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday.

Ms Gandhi said in a direct message to the prime minister, “When you sit on the dais for Azadi ka Mahotsav festival today Modiji, please remember that we got our Independence because of the farmers. Even today, their sons protect our borders. Our farmers are troubled for months, and have been raising their voices but you have been ignoring them,” urging him to visit the spot.

Eight people died in the incident, including four farmers. The police have filed an FIR against Mr. Mishra's son and others while the state government announced Rs 45 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
