Protests Erupt In West Bengal Over Prophet Row

Police heads of states are all prepared!


On Monday, Locals in Birbhum staged a protest against the controversial remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

As per visuals, hundreds gathered to join the protest march.

Protests erupted in various states including Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh over the controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad made by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal.

Notably, some Gulf nations expressed outrage against the controversial remarks against the Prophet by Nupur Sharma. The country has been witnessing protests.

On Friday, The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asked the police heads of states and Union Territories to be prepared and alert as they will be on target.

On Friday, MHA issued an alert to all state and Union Territory police after several incidents of violence.

In UP, 227 people were arrested from various districts in connection with Friday violence, a senior police official has said.

In a statement issued, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, "227 persons have been arrested in the state for Friday violence. This includes 68 in Prayagraj, 50 in Hathras, 48 in Saharanpur, 28 in Ambedkarnagar, 25 in Moradabad, and eight in Firozabad."

People pelted stones at police personnel in Prayagraj and Saharanpur as people took to rowdiness during their protests after Friday prayers.

At least four other cities witnessed similar protests during the marches that were carried out to decry the offensive remarks on Prophet Mohammad made by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
