Punjab: CM Charanjit Singh Channi meets PM Modi; likely to meet Rahul Gandhi

This was their first meeting after Mr Channi became the new chief minister of Punjab.


Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi and urged him to withdraw the Centre's decision to postpone procurement of paddy in Punjab from October 1 to October 11. This was their first meeting after Mr Channi became the new chief minister of Punjab.

The Centre had postponed procurement of Kharif paddy in Punjab and Haryana till October 11 after crop maturity got delayed owing to recent heavy rains. The crop procurement is undertaken by Food Corporation of India, which is the central government agency along with state agencies.

Mr Channi said that he also discussed with PM Modi about the three farm laws and asked the prime minister to take out some solution to the deadlock with farmers. Mr Channi is likely to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as well later in the evening.
