Punjab Elections: BJP Workers Allegedly Attacked In Pathankot, 4 Injured

Incident Took Place During a Party-Poll Gathering


On Wednesday (February 2), Ahead of the Punjab election, the state is all gearing up with preparations. There occurs an incident where a group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers was allegedly attacked by some anti-social elements. The incident took place in Punjab's Pathankot.


Former Councilor Vijay Chunni had organized a BJP election rally in front of Daulatpur Sri Ram Sharanam Mandir at Ward no. 19 when 35 to 40 miscreants, from anti-social elements, attacked them with rods and sharp elements.


According to the information, Four BJP workers were injured during the attack and were shifted to the hospital. The incidents occurred during a party-poll gathering, which was to be addressed by state BJP chief and Candidate Ashwani Sharma.


Blurry visuals were released by ANI showcasing disruption at the venue. Where party poll gathering was supposed to take place. Images showcased a few men were lying on the hospital bed and were injured.


After receiving the information, BJP candidate from Pathankot and Punjab party president Ashwani Sharma reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

 

Ashwani Sharma warned that hooliganism would not be tolerated in the city. He also said, "This shows the administration is unable to maintain law and order" he called this incident a conspiracy by another political party.

 

This is the first incident of violence reported in Punjab which goes to polls on February 14 to elect 117 members of its legislative assembly.


This incident took place ahead of the Punjab polls. The polling in the Punjab state will begin from February 20 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
