Quality Of Air to Remain Unhealthy in Capital

Air quality to remain below satisfactory Level in National Capital till Monday


The situation in the National Capital remained gloomy as Delhi's air quality turned "severe" on Saturday, there are chances of improving quality of air after Monday. Neighboring cities of Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and Noida also entered the effected "severe" zone, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 446, 401 and 406 respectively.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials reportedly that with slow wind speed allowing the accumulation of "locally generated" pollutants which effect on environment, Delhi's AQI was 401 at 10 am on Saturday.

VK Soni, head of the IMD's environment research Centre stated "The wind speed remained slow allowing the accumulation of pollutants generated locally. Easterly winds carrying moisture also led to the formation of secondary particulate matter. All these factors together pushed the air quality in the 'severe' zone,".

Shallow to moderate air is also predicted for the next 2 days. On Monday as the wind speed is expected to high as a compare with today, the maximum wind speed is likely to be 8 kmph, 10 kmph and 15 kmph on Saturday, Sunday and Monday respectively, reported IMD.
