Rahul Gandhi on three-day visit to Tamil Nadu, will launch the campaign today

The former Congress President will attend road shows and address meetings in the five districts of Tamil Nadu.


Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will launch the party campaign in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu for the upcoming assembly polls on Saturday. Former party president is on a three-day visit from January 23-25 in which he will address road shows in the western region of the state. He will visit Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and Karur including Dindigul in the southern region of Tamil Nadu. After his arrival in Coimbatore, Mr Gandhi will meet representatives of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the industrial city.

"Farmers' issue is a burning issue throughout the country and Congress has been at the forefront from the beginning. Rahulji has taken leadership on that issue. Across the country, Congress has done programmes and dharnas. He will be interacting with farmers and will address a farmers' convention in Karur," party leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said. As per the itinerary, Mr Gandhi will visit Tiruppur in the evening and will pay tribute to the freedom fighter Tiruppur Kumaran. He will then meet the industrial labourers and listen to their grievances.

On the second day, Mr Gandhi will visit Erode district, pay homage to the freedom fighter, Dheeran Chinnamalai and hold an interaction with the weavers. He will meet people of Kangeyam and address a meeting in Dharapuram. On the third day, Mr Gandhi will attend a Farmer's Convention in Karur district and attend road shows at Pallapatti and Vedasandur.

Mr Gandhi's visit comes months before the state assembly polls that are likely to be held in May. These districts are strongholds of the ruling AIADMK and the visit may help the alliance led by DMK in the upcoming elections.
