Rahul Gandhi protests as Sonia Gandhi is summoned by ED again

Chief Sonia Gandhi being questioned at the ED office...

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with many party MPs have been detained by the Delhi Police for protesting outside the Parliament House against orders of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to move to summon the party chief Sonia Gandhi, officials reported on Tuesday. Many senior leaders including Deepender S Hooda, Ranjeet Ranjan and K Suresh have been detained.

Sonia Gandhi is being questioned at the ED office over an alleged connection with the National Herald money laundering case. While she was being questioned, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs staged a sit-in protest at Vijay Chowk against the ED and the BJP’s actions. The Congress leaders had planned to march from Parliament House to Rashtrapati Bhavan, but the Delhi Police had intervened and detained several of them in buses.

The leaders said Delhi Police manhandled as they detained the leaders and accused them of manhandling woman workers of the party as well. The leaders of the party have been protesting against ED’s move to question Sonia Gandhi for weeks now.

Just before he was detained Rahul Gandhi told the press that “India is a police state, Modi is a king”. The leaders have stated that the money laundering case in which Sonia Gandhi is accused is a “false” case and no FIR has been lodged for the case yet. The Congress leaders also accused that the detentions made were an “absolute misuse of power” by the BJP and the Delhi Police.

For now, the Delhi Police have refrained from commenting on the detentions and where the detainees have been taken to.
