Rahul-Priyanka Gandhi led delegation meets President over Lakhimpur Kheri violence

The delegation also demanded an independent inquiry by two sitting judges of the Supreme Court to oversee the probe.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led a delegation to meet President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday to present a memorandum of facts on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

The delegation demanded the sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra from his post as his son, Ashish Mishra is accused of mowing down protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh October 3. The delegation consisted of Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge and AK Antony.

The delegation demanded that either the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra should resign or he should be dismissed from his post as a fair probe would not be possible if he remains the minister. The delegation also demanded an independent inquiry by two sitting judges of the Supreme Court to oversee the probe.

Rahul Gandhi said that the President has assured them that he will talk to the government today regarding the issue.
