Rain, Hailstorm In National Capital

Rain, Hailstorm In National Capital And Outskirts

The national capital woke up to heavy rain and hail storm om wednesday morning too. Rain started around 7 am, followed by hailstorm minutes later in parts of Delhi and outskirts as well. The rain and cloudy skies also led to a dip in the temperature. The rain continued in the national capital for the fourth consecutive day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said more rain and windy waves are predicted in the coming days.

Earlier, the Safdarjung Observatory has reviewed data of the national capital, which recorded 1.3 mm heavy rainfall along with lightning till 5:30 pm. The weather stations at Palam, Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded 5.3 mm, 0.4 mm and 4.8 mm rainfall, respectively, during the period.

The minimum temperature raised to 13.2 degrees Celsius as a result of cloud cover with no visibility of sun. The maximum temperature settled at 20.8 degrees Celsius. Clouds capture some of the outgoing infrared radiation and radiate it back downwards, warming the ground.

Social media users shared videos of streets and neighbourhoods covered in hail stones. The rains, under the influence of a strong western and northern disturbance, come on the back of a "severe" cold wave that gripped Delhi in the run-up to the New Year.
