Rakesh Tikait Launches Dharna Over Arrest Of BKU Members

10 Members Of BKU were Arrested!


On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait launched a dharna after the arrest of his group members. Around Ten activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) were arrested after a clash at the district hospital here on Monday night.

 

Protesting at the Kotwali police station here since Tuesday morning, Tikait demanded their immediate release, alleging that they had been falsely implicated in the case.

 

According to police, a scuffle erupted in a restaurant on Monday night between the employees and BKU members. It was alleged that they misbehaved with the staff of a hospital where those injured in the scuffle were brought. On Tuesday, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait sat on a protest with hundreds of his supporters demanding their release.

 

As per the statement given "We received information that several BKU members caused violence in a restaurant on Monday evening. There were clashes in the local hospital as well. Two FIRs were filed and 10 persons were arrested,” said the Superintendent of Police (Muzaffarnagar City) Arpit Vijayvargiya. The FIRs have been filed for rioting, assault, criminal intimidation among others.

 

Whereas a call for support was given by BKU that led to local members of the outfit camping at toll plazas and police stations demanding the release of the arrested members. Rakesh Tikait sat on an indefinite fast. The BKU leader alleged that the outfit members were innocent and were being framed.

 

Further, the SP said" The protests by BKU workers were called off after we assured them of further investigation”.
