Swami Smaranananda, the president of the Ramakrishna Mission in Kolkata, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 95 due to age-related ailments.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Swami Smaranananda, acknowledging his profound impact on numerous individuals.

 

Modi noted that Swami Smaranananda's legacy of compassion and wisdom will serve as a timeless source of inspiration for generations to come.

 

The Ramakrishna Mission stated that Swami Smaranananda assumed the role of the 16th president of the order in 2017.

 

The statement read, "Srimat Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, the most revered President Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, attained Mahasamadhi today at 8:14 pm."

 

The monk was hospitalized at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan on January 29 due to a pre-existing urinary tract infection. Subsequently, he experienced respiratory failure and was placed on a ventilator on March 3.

 

The Prime Minister expressed his deep connection with Swami Smaranananda over the years, recalling their interactions. He reminisced about his visit to Belur Math in 2020, where he had the opportunity to engage with Swami Smaranananda.

 

Additionally, the Prime Minister mentioned his recent visit to the hospital in Kolkata, where he inquired about the monk's health. He extended his condolences to the countless devotees of Belur Math, offering prayers for peace (Om Shanti).
