"Red light on, gaadi off" to begin from Oct 18: Delhi CM

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal urged the commuters to practice this initiative to stop the spread of pollution.


Pollution level is increasing in the national capital whereas the Air Quality Index (AQI) is shifting towards the poor category. Several initiatives have been started and programmes have been implemented to stop the spread of pollution in the capital city.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the "Red light on, Gaadi off" will begin from October 18 in the national capital. He urged the commuters to practice this initiative to stop the spread of pollution. Whereas due to the arrival of the winter season, the process of stubble burning starts in neighbouring states which leads to a suffocating environment in the capital city.

As per the statement, the CM urged "not to take out their vehicles at least once a week" and suggested travelling via metro, bus or share vehicles with others.  He also requested to download the green Delhi application which enables to register complaints about pollution or hampering the environment. 

Meanwhile, several initiatives have been implemented by the Delhi Government. Smog towers have also been installed at the center of the city to minimise the pollution level.
