On Monday, 09 October 2023, five members of a family, including three children, died after a compressor of a refrigerator exploded in their house in Punjab's Jalandhar, police said, news agency PTI reported.
On Sunday, the incident took place in the city's Avtar Nagar area. The house caught fire after the explosion, according to the police.
The five people were rushed to Civil Hospital Jalandhar but they all succumbed to their injuries. They were identified as Yashpal Ghai aged 70 years, Ruchi Ghai aged 40, Mansha aged 14, Diya aged 12, and Akshay 10 years old.
A forensic expert team has been informed and called to collect samples and examine the exact cause of the explosion, police said.
"We received information about an explosion-like incident in a house in Jalandhar's Avtar Nagar, after which we immediately reached the spot.
We are investigating the exact reason behind this painful accident. We have called a team of forensic experts for checking," Jalandhar Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Aditya said.
