Retired judge SK Yadav appointed UP's Deputy Lokayukta

SK Yadav took the oath of office on Monday which was administered by UP Lokayukta Justice Sanjay Mishra.


Retired judge Surendra Kumar Yadav, who gave the verdict in the Babri Masjid demolition case last year, was appointed Deputy Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh by Governor of the state, Anandiben Patel on Monday. He took the oath of office on Monday which was administered by UP Lokayukta Justice Sanjay Mishra.

Mr Yadav being the judge of special CBI court had acquitted all 32 accused on September 30, 2020 in the Babri demolition case in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. The accused included BJP veteran leaders L K Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh.

The anti-corruption watchdog comprises the Lokayukta and three ‘up-lokayuktas’ and Mr Yadav was appointed the third ‘up-lokayukta’ by the Governor on April 6. The tenure of an 'up-lokayukta' is of eight years.
