Rishi Sunak bids to become UK’s first Indian PM

Rishi Sunak is running for the Prime minister position as PM Boris Johnson stepped down

Prior to Sunak’s spectacular fall out with former PM Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak was on a rapid rise that could finally have him installed as Britain’s first Prime Minister of colour and first Hindu Prime minister. It would be a distinctly historic landmark if the Hindu descendant of immigrants from one of Britain’s old empire colonial countries were to take command of the World’s fifth largest economy. It would be a huge honour to Hindu descendants if Sunak secures the constitutional position of Prime minister in Britain.

However, to secure the prestigious position, Sunak after making the final run-off following a series of votes by Conservative MPs’, he must also first persuade the party’s members as the ballot papers go out on Monday. Rishi Sunak is also well behind Liz Truss as of now. The opinion poll shows that Truss has so far outflanked Rishi Sunak with policies geared to the tory right. This also mistrusts Sunak’s role in the cabinet revolt that unseated Boris Johnson after months of scandal.

Rishi Sunak is extremely rich from his pre-politics career in finance, the former chancellor of the exchequer has been mocked as being out of touch when Britons surviving inflation. On the campaign trail, he wore Prada loafers to a building site and was accused of “mansplaining Truss” in a hot bad-tempered debate between the two and he savaged her tax-cutting plans.

Instead, Rishi Sunak argues that Britain needs the ‘Thatcherite dose of sound money that can quell inflation and get growth right back on track.
