RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav gets clean chit by CBI in DLF Bribery case, says sources

After spending more than 3 years in jail, the former Union Railway Minister has been out on bail since April.

According to the sources, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has been given a clean chit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the DLF bribery case, reported NDTV. After spending more than 3 years in jail, the former Union Railway Minister has been out on bail since April.

Over alleged corruption charges, CBI's Economic Offence Branch had started a preliminary probe against Lalu Prasad Yadav and real estate developer DLF Group in January 2018. According to the allegations, the DLF group wanted Bandra's (in Mumbai) rail land lease project and New Delhi Railway Station upgradation project, for which it had bribed Mr Yadav with a property in the posh area of South Delhi.

Allegedly, a shell company known as AB Exports Private Limited had bought a property in New Friends Colony in the national capital's southern region for around Rs 5 crore back in December 2007. Reportedly, the property was funded by DLF Home Developers which was routed through a number of shell companies. It is claimed that the actual rate of the said property was around Rs 30 crore back then.

Reportedly, in 2011, Lalu Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav and his daughters, Chanda Yadav and Ragini Lalu had bought AB Exports Private Limited for only Rs 4 lakh, after which they became the owner of the South Delhi property. According to the reports, the CBI had wanted to convert the preliminary inquiry into a regular case (FIR) but eventually, after two years of investigation, the preliminary inquiry has been closed.
