Robotic Surgery Medical Science’s New Hope

UAE will perform its first robot-aided surgery soon.

The recently trending innovation, a minimally invasive surgery through robotic aid has now been established as the gold standard treatment for surgeries.

Over these years, the scope of robotic aided surgery has widened from prostate, kidney, ureters, ovaries, intestines, stomach, etc. and now for the treatment of cancer and pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJO).

Even for head and neck surgeries for that matter.

A recent development has been observed in the state of UAE where Dr Mona Abdulaziz Kashwani, a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Thai has made a remarkable record in history, as Kashwani will be the first Emirati physician to perform robotic surgery in the UAE.

She is considered to be one of the most experienced doctors in robotic surgeries.

She once mentioned how she spent countless hours after shifts using a surgical simulator for training. Studying the operation of robotic systems meticulously.

Finally she has qualified to receive licensing to perform gynecologic robotic surgery using the advanced Da Vinci surgical robot from France.

According to scientists and doctors robotic aided surgery is one of the most significant developments in the field of medical science that has potential of transforming healthcare.

Dr. Manish Ahuja, Consultant, Urology, Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Fortis Hospital, said, “Robotic aided surgery provides a 3D view of operation via special camera insertion inside body of the patient.

Thus, it gives a 360 degrees view of parts of the body which are difficult to reach with the human.

He added how they have completed 250 successful robotic aided surgeries so far with the most advanced 4th Generation robotic machine — Da Vinci in usage.
