RS Chairman Naidu suspends TMC MP Santanu Sen for snatching papers from IT minister

After the motion was passed, Chairman Naidu asked Dr Sen to leave the House following which Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12:00 pm amid protests by the TMC.

Rajya Sabha Chairman on Friday suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Santanu Sen from the House for snatching IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement on the Pegasus issue in the Upper House on Thursday. The suspension came moments after V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, moved a motion on this and Dr Sen was suspended for the rest of the monsoon session.

After the motion was passed, Chairman Naidu asked Dr Sen to leave the House following which Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12:00 pm amid protests by the TMC. Some leaders of the opposition even met Chairman Naidu to discuss the issue and asked him why the motion was passed when it was not even listed in the proceedings of the day.

On Thursday, when Mr Vaishnaw was about to make a statement on Pegasus, Dr Sen snatched his papers and tore them which converted into an ugly row. Mr Vaishnaw took a dig at the West Bengal government by saying that the TMC has a "culture of violence in West Bengal." To this, TMC MP Mahua Moitra remarked she was happy that "Bengal's culture had entered Parliament, which was against the BJP and for democracy." "When Amit Shah was Home Minister, he used all IPS officers to spy. He is now bringing that Gujarat model all over India now," she responded, referring to the Pegasus spyware report.
