Sania Mirza Announced Retirement!

First Indian woman who win a WTA singles title in 2005...


Professional tennis player Sania Mirza announced her retirement in an interview with the Women's Tennis Association after playing at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 event in Dubai next month. As her retirement plan, she informed that she will compete in next month’s Australian Open alongside Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina.

She became the first Indian woman who win a WTA singles title in 2005. Later, she broke the record by make her space in top 30 players by 2007 where she ranked 27th in world.

Mirza said in the interview that she will stop playing right after the WTA Finals, because they were going to make the WTA Finals, but she tore her tendon in her elbow right before the US Open. So, she had to step down of everything.

 

A six-time major champion ,three in doubles and three in mixed doubles mentioned that after her retirement she will focus on her academics in Dubai where she is living with her husband , former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik for more than a decade.

In another interview with curly tales Middle East Sania explained why she is taking her retirement at this early age.

Sania said, “I’m 36, and honestly my body is beat, that is the main reason for it. And I really don't have the capacity in my mind to emotionally push that much anymore. I turned pro in 2003. Priorities change, and now my priority is not to push my body to the limit every single day."
