SC And Whole Indian Judiciary To See Virtual Hearings Soon: Justice Chadrachud

SC and Indian Judicial system to go virtual soon on a full scale.

The Supreme Court (SC) might soon see an improved system of virtual hearings that might come into action soon said Justice DY Chndrachud on Monday. This observation was made when a Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar was arguing before the bench headed by Justice Chndrachud and the argument was disconnected abruptly. Kapil Sibbal, a Senior Counsel, who was also appearing in the matter, grumbled about the troublesome nature of the hearing via the Vidyo and VidyoConnect platforms.

Justice Chndrachud said, “Let me inform you that tenders have been floated to bring on board a private party, a competent platform to take this entire effort from us. We are outsourcing it but being a public body we have to follow tender requirements. This exercise is on the avail of being completed. We will be doing that by Wednesday.” He further added “Once the Supreme Court tender is finalized. I as the Chairperson of the e-committee of the Supreme Court will undertake one global tender for the entire judiciary in India. The process is also almost complete. I was indisposed all of last week but we are meeting this Wednesday.

As the Supreme Court contemplates over the recommencement of physical hearings, last week AG K.K. Venugopal had said that he has written to the Registrar General of the court on the dreadful quality of the virtual hearing system in the court and consequent to that bids have come to be invited in this behalf
