SC Grants Interim Bail To Comic Munawar Faruqui

Munawar Faruqui arrested for humiliating Hindu gods granted interim bail by SC


The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui and also issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh government. Faruqui was jailed over allegations of ‘insulting Hindu Gods and Goddesses’ during a show. The High Court of Madhya Pradesh refused to grant him bail on January 28 and had also refused thrice earlier. The comedian had filed a written petition as well as a Special Leave to Appeal (SLA) and both were heard by the bench of justices R F Nariman and B R Gavia.

A BJP, MLA’s son Eklavya Singh Gaur filed a complaint against the comedian stating that the comedian made objectionable remarks in Hindu deities during his show in Indore,MP and this led to the arrest of the comedian and four others on January1.In the complaint all of them were accused of making ‘filthy jokes on Hindu deities, as well as home minister Amit Shah.’
