Rise in Omicron cases across several states


Schools and colleges across several states have been shut down due to the rise in the cases of Omicron. Haryana, West Bengal, and Patna have closed schools.



On Sunday, the West Bengal chief secretary HK Dwivedi announced the new guidelines mentioning closure in schools and colleges. Few other activities such as swimming pool, gym, spas, and wellness center will remain closed in the state.



Schools in Bihar's Patna will be closed till classes 8 and will continue till January 8. The order was issued by the district magistrate of Patna. According to the statement, given to ANI, it said, the district administration of Patna has ordered the closure of all schools up to class 8 in the city till January 8, 2022. The reason behind the closure is the cold wave condition in the state. The city is witnessing a downfall in the temperature level.



Also, the Haryana government imposed restrictions-like situation in the state which led to closure of school, college till January 12. The information was announced by the Haryana chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Office. The order states," All universities and colleges (weather government or private) shall remain close till January 12, 2022. However, the staff should attend college/universities as usual and online classes will be taken by faculty from institutions as per the schedule. Principals will ensure that the classes are held online regularly."



Schools and colleges all across the states are being reviewed and getting closed after witnessing the omicron scenario in the respective state. The omicron tally has touched peak to 1,700 cases, India recorded 33,750 new Covid-19 cases and 123 death due to the infection.
