Schools Reopen In Delhi From Grades 10 And 12 From August 9

Schools had reopened briefly in January and February of this year, but closed again when Delhi was hit by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Education Department of National Capital, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) declared on Sunday that schools in the state capital will be partially reopened for students in grades 10 and 12 from August 9.

According to sources, "Schools will partially reopen for class 10 and 12 students in Delhi from August 9. Students can visit their schools for admission-related work, including counseling, guidance and practical activities related to board exams," the notification said.

On July 28 Delhi's Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the education minister, invited proposals from various stakeholders, including parents and teachers, to reopen educational institutes in the capital. All schools have been closed since March last year, the first nationwide lockdown that was announced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Schools reopened briefly in January and February of this year, but closed again when Delhi was hit by the second wave of the Covid19 pandemic.

Now, due to the drop in daily cases in the city and the fear of a possible failure of a second consecutive school year, the process of reopening of the schools has been initiated. Schools in various states have already reopened, but only for high school classes. Several other states have announced that classes will resume on campus in the coming days.
