Second consecutive term as CM of Meghalaya for Sangma

Oath taking ceremony took place on Tuesday


Conrad K Sangma, the president of the National People's Party, was sworn in as Meghalaya's chief minister for the second time today. Neiphiu Rio, of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), is also taking the oath of office as Nagaland chief minister today. 

 

Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, both from the NPP, took their oaths as deputy chief ministers, demonstrating the regional party's strength in the rainbow coalition that has come to power. 

 

Alexander Laloo Hek of the BJP, Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla of the UDP, and Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP all took their oaths as ministers.

 

Governor Phagu Chauhan administered the oath of secrecy to seven other MLAs from the National People's Party (NPP), two from the UDP, and one each from the BJP and the HSPDP as members of Sangma's cabinet at Raj Bhavan. 

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and PJP President J P Nadda all attended the swearing-in ceremony.

 

Marcuise N Marak, Rakkam A Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon and A T Mondal were among those from the NPP who were sworn-in as cabinet ministers.

The NPP-led coalition has 45 MLAs, with 26 from the NPP and two from the BJP. 

 

On Monday, 58 newly elected MLAs were sworn in as assembly members, with pro-tem speaker Timothy D Shira administering the oath of office and secrecy.
