Section 144 imposed in Mumbai in view of Ganesh Chaturthi

Other states such as Delhi and Andhra Pradesh have banned public gatherings in view of Ganesh Chaturthi.


Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the major festivals celebrated across Maharashtra. This is a 10-day festival which is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. Whereas Covid-19 cases are also increasing simultaneously with the festivals. Crowds were seen in markets that has increased the risk of getting infected with the virus.

In order to curb the spread of Covid-19, Section 144 has been imposed in Mumbai in view of prevailing Covid-19. As per the order, it is said that “no pandal visit will be allowed” whereas not more than 5 people are permitted to gather. According to the Mumbai police’s chief,'' No processions of Ganpati will be allowed and more than five persons can`t gather at a place. Section 144 will be imposed in the city with effect from September 10 till September 19.”

As per the statement released by the Maharashtra home ministry, it said "It is prohibited to visit the idol of Lord Ganesha or visit the mandap and darshan should be made available online or through electronic means.” Whereas they also requested the devotees to celebrate the 10-day festival at home to stop the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, other states such as Delhi and Andhra Pradesh have banned public gatherings in view of Ganesh Chaturthi.
