Security Breach: Bihar CM Nitish Attacked By A Man In His Hometown

The attacker is arrested, lodged a case against him.

Patna: Bihar Cheif Minister faced a security lapse in his hometown in Bakhtiyarpur when a random man attacked him. According to the sources, the man who was caught on a CCTV camera during the attack has been arrested and is in police custody. While calling the incident "unfortunate", state minister Ashok Chaudhary said, "There was a lapse on part of the people in charge of the Chief Minister's security. There should be an investigation".

Taking notes from the CCTV Footage, the attack took place as the Chief Minister was about to pay his respects to the statue of Shilbhadra Yaji, a noted freedom fighter from the state, at the local Safar hospital complex.

The man, who came from behind, was seen walking up the dais in rapid steps and striking Mr Kumar – who had bent to make a floral offering to the statue -- on the back.

The attacker was immediately dragged off by the Chief Minister's security personnel. "Do not beat him. First find out what he is saying," the Chief Minister told his security personnel, sources said.

Moreover, the other footage showed that the man later identified as Shankar Sah -- being escorted away by the police.

The attacker Shankar lives in Chief Minister's hometown Bakhtiyarpur and owns a jewellery shop.

Ahead of the tragic security breach, the investigation by the Patna Police indicates the man is mentally unstable. Sources said he was mostly kept confined at home by his family. He managed to sneak out today as most of the male members of the family were out.

As of now, a case has been registered and the police are making further inquiries. The matter of security lapse is also being looked into, sources said.

These days, the Chief Minister is touring different segments of his old Lok Sabha constituency Barh as part of a public relations exercise. Mr Kumar was elected five times from Barh, from 1989 to 1999.

Mr. Kumar had last faced an attack in November 2020, when he was campaigning in Bihar's Madhubani for the ongoing state elections.
