Sheikh Hasina thanks PM Modi for evacuating Bangladeshis from Ukraine

The Bangladesh PM expressed gratitude!

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has expressed her gratitude towards the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for safely evacuating Bangladeshis from Ukraine amid the Russia-Ukraine war, said government sources.

On Tuesday, India started evacuating its stranded citizens from Ukraine's Sumy to Poltava under ‘Operation Ganga’ after Russia announced a temporary ceasefire from 10 am (Moscow time) on Ukraine.

The ceasefire was effected so that humanitarian corridors could be established in the cities of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol.

According to Puneet Singh Chandhok, president of the Indian World Forum, an Indian convoy consisting of 12 buses left from Sumy and all Indians from the city have been evacuated from there. The Indian convoy was escorted by officials of the Indian Embassy and the Red Cross.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that, the fact that India succeeded in evacuating its nationals amid the war in Ukraine is proof of the country’s growing influence in the entire world.

More than 15,900 Indians have been brought back since the special evacuation flights began on February 22, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in an official release on Sunday. Eleven special civilian flights had brought back 2,135 Indians on Sunday, the release said.
