SKM Meet In Delhi, To Restart 'Farmers Protest'

Farmers To Talk for protest!

On Monday, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a farmers’ platform that fiercely opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will hold its first deliberations in the national capital today. They will be discussing the plans, especially to restart its agitation, people who are aware of the development said.

According to the statement given by Rakesh Tikait, he said to HT, Whatever party is in power, our agitation will continue till our demands are met. I don’t want to talk about the UP elections. It’s over. But 100%, the agitation will continue. I am with the SKM,” Rakesh Tikait, leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, a farmers’ group, and a key face of the agitation, said on Sunday.

Tikait refuted doubts in some quarters that he might wind down his involvement in the agitation as “baddmashon ka affwaa (mischievous rumors)”. “(News) channels are saying we failed. If we failed, then why did the government take back the farm laws?” Tikait asked.

According to the report, the immediate concern of the SKM is the withdrawal of all cases lodged against farmers during the agitation, some of them under the harsh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The farmers had announced the suspension of their protest in November last year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of three farm laws.

Majorly the protesting farmers were from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and National Capital Delhi /NCR. But this protest also took a peak and touched towards nationwide protest.
