Telangana police have launched an investigation into the recent death case of a 38-year-old software engineer who was killed in Jagtial District.

An initial report by the police suggest that the Bengaluru-based techie was set ablaze by one of his close relative on suspicion that he performed black magic. During the investigation police came to know that the incident took place in Malyala mandal of Telangana's Jagtial District on Monday evening when the software engineer was visiting his close relative. According to the police the exact motive behind this murder is still unclear, police have registered a case in this regard on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's father. Further proceedings are underway. 

According to a report, In October of this year (2020), a similar incident was reported from Jharkhand's Garhwa district, where according to the eye witnesses a mob allegedly stripped and thrashed three women and a man on same suspicion of them practicing witchcrafting. The witnesses said, the women and their male associate were paraded naked around Narayanpur village by a mob of nearly 50-60 people.

That report also stated that a similar case occurred in Assam, where two people including a 50 year old widow, were murdered in Karbi Anglong district on last month on the suspicion that they were practising black magic. Assam police official stated that the incident took place Rohimapur village of Karbi Anglong district nine locals were arrested for killing the two and burning their bodies.
