Son arrested for stabbing his father to death over property dispute in Thane

Frequent quarrels within the family over years on property made a son to kill his father


Thane/ Maharashtra: Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for killing his father over a property dispute in Maharashtra, said the officials today.


According to the statement of the senior police official inspector Prasad Pandhare said Ravi Mangal Shelke, the accused allegedly stabbed his 50-year-old father Mangal Hari Shelke to death on October 12 in Navle village of Thane and then he escaped from the sight.


The Murbad police have filed a murder case against the suspect and looked for him. The police arrested him from Murbad taluka on wednesday. The accused is the son of the victim from his first wife and was not pleased with his father marrying the second time


"They were having frequent quarrels for the last five years over a property issue and the victim had evicted the accused from his house following the dispute" the official said.


Property disputes cases are common in India and the number of cases is increasing at a high rate due to greed and unsatisfactory family issues.


According to a survey, about 25% of all cases decided by the Supreme Court involve land disputes, of which 30% concern disputes relating to land acquisition. Again, 66% of all civil cases in India are related to land/property disputes.
