Sonia Gandhi Meets President Droupadi Murmu

Meeting amidst the ongoing internal differences in the Congress party


New Delhi: On Tuesday, 23 August 2022, Congress president Sonia Gandhi met newly elected President of India Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Sonia Gandhi paid a visit to President Murmu amidst the ongoing internal differences in the Congress party.

Recently, Congress leader Anand Sharma announced his resignation from the chairmanship of the party's steering committee for the state, saying he was left with no choice after the continuing exclusion and insults.

Meanwhile, the AICC in charge of Himachal Pradesh, Rajeev Shukla was sent to pacify him. After his meeting with Anand Sharma, Shukla travelled to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi.

Reportedly, Sonia Gandhi recently tested positive for Covid-19.

Draupadi Murmu became the first tribal leader to hold office, took oath as the 15th President of India.

For the occasion, she wore a traditional Santhali saree which was weaved with colourful threads.

Draupadi Murmu's white saree was complemented by a red stripe on the upper border and a broad green stripe with triangular spikes on the lower side.

This simple yet elegant-looking Santhali saree is usually handmade. Along with being prevalent in Jharkhand, it's also famous in other states including Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam.
