After the expiry of the Y category security...

On Wednesday, 17 May 2023, the government of West Bengal took the decision to increase the security of former Indian cricket team captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to the Z category, a senior official said.

The decision was taken following the expiry of the tenure of Y category security provided to Mr. Sourav Ganguly.

"As the security cover expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly's security cordon to the Z category," he said.

As per the new security arrangement, he will have 8 to 10 police personnel guarding him at all times, the official said.

Under the Y category security, there were three policemen for the security of Mr. Ganguly from the Special Branch in his cordon and an equal number of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence.

On Tuesday, representatives of the state secretariat reached his Behala office where the meeting was held with senior officers from Kolkata Police headquarters and the local police station, he added.

"Recently, he has been traveling with his team Delhi Daredevils. He will return to Kolkata on May 21 with his team.
