SP chief Akhilesh Yadav rules out alliance with BSP, Congress

Keeping in mind his past experiences, Akhilesh Yadav has decided not to get into alliance with any big party in the upcoming state assembly elections.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday ruled out any alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections to be held next year. Mr Yadav said in an interview with NDTV that his past experience has not been good with other big parties and is likely to join smaller parties. Since the "Bua-Bhatija" act was a flop in 2019 alliance with Mayawati's BSP, he has decided not to get into alliance with the party. Similarly, Mr Yadav said that the SP did not have a good experience with the Congress in 2017 as their party had given them over 100 seats to contest state assembly elections but it did not help them win. He said the Samajwadi Party was targeting 350 seats of 403-member assembly in the upcoming election. Talking about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr Yadav remarked that the party will lose in the elections as they have "failed the people of UP in the biggest test of their leadership. People were abandoned by the government," he said. He added that the BJPs "so-called double-engine government" that is, at the Centre as well as in the state, was going in different directions.
