Surabhi Malik is the first woman officer to take charge as the DC of Ludhiana

Replaced IAS officer Varinder Sharma...


The deputy commissioner of Ludhiana has been transferred and a new DC has been appointed on Tuesday, April 12. 

 

A 2012 - batch IAS Officer Surabhi Malik has been appointed the new deputy commissioner (DC) of Ludhiana. She is the first woman officer to take charge as the DC of the largest district of the state. She has been replaced 2009 - batch IAS officer Varinder Kumar Sharma. No woman has ever served as Deputy Commissioner in Ludhiana. 

 

Sources said, "Outgoing deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma wanted a transfer because of family commitments." 

 

India has around 5000 IAS officers. Ms. Surabhi Malik is one of those 5000 VIPs. 5000 IAS officers sound a very small number to administer a large and populous country like India. To become an IAS officer is considered to be great achievement in India, it is a matter of great respect of the family to whom IAS officer belongs. 

 

IAS officer Surabhi Malik, who is at present serving as the Special Secretary of Local Government and in addition Join Managing Director - cum - Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company, has been now transferred and posted as the Deputy Commisioner, Ludhiana. Chief Secretary to Government of Punjab Anirudh Tewari issued the order in this regard on Tuesday. 

 

In Ludhiana, Surabhi has previously served as the additional deputy commissioner (ADCP, development) in 2017. She has also served as the additional commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation prior to that. Surabhi has also served as the Fatehgarh Sahib DC, Rupnagar ADC and Nangal sub - divisional magistrate. 

 

Malik has also served as chairperson of the Patiala improvement trust and chief administrator, Patiala Development Authority. She was also the Tertiary Covid Care In - charge, Rajindar hospital, Patiala. 

 

Known to be hard - working and dedicated professional, she did her Masters in Economics from the London School of Economics on the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship from 2007 to 2009. 

 

She completed BA (Hons) Economics from Lady Shriram College in Delhi. She is also the recipient of Director's Gold Medal for Management at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. 

 

Meanwhile, Surabhi Malik who has been posted in Ludhiana DC, replacing Varinder Kumar. Vishesh Sarangal has been given the charge of the DC, Kapurthala, and NPS Randhawa will be the DC, SBS Nagar. Parneet Shergill has been posted as Fatehgarh Sahib DC while Amrit Singh is the DC, Ferozepur. Mohnish Kumar has been given the charge of the DC, Taran Taran. Among IPS officers, BK Uppal has been posted as special DGP (Investigation Lokpal ).

 

Gaurav Yadav has been posted as the ADGP (Administration) with the additional charge of the special principal secretary to the CM.
