Tamil Nadu Extends Lockdown Till July, 31

Tamil Nadu government has extended the lockdown even though some ease in protocols has been given


On Friday, after holding a state meeting over the pandemic, the Tamil Nadu government extended the lockdown till July 31 and declared an ease of guidelines. As per the new protocols, swimming pools, bars, educational institutions, zoos and theatres will remain shut due to the Covid-19 situation. Also, Inter-state transport facilities will remain prohibited.

The government stated that ITIs, Industrial schools, type-writing schools are allowed to operate with a 50 per cent of capacity and students on a rotational basis can join classes. Teachers can come to schools for the purpose of admission and the distribution of textbooks only. Earlier this week, the state had extended the lockdown till July 19 however some relaxations in Covid-19 rules have been granted. 

In the latest guidelines, the government had permitted the recruitment exams to be conducted by the Central and state. However the state has not restarted inter-state transport, only bus facility to Puducherry have been allowed to operate.

Some services like International air travel and  liquor bars remain shut , other activities which will continue to remain closed are swimming pools, theaters, social and political public meetings, recreational activities, colleges, schools, zoos. The capacity of wedding guests will remain at 50 and the limit for funerals is 20 people only. Shops and necessary commercial activities are allowed to open till 9 PM. Hotels, tea-stalls, bakeries, roadside shops have been allowed till 9 PM with 50% occupancy.

As per the guidelines, No social/ political/ cultural/ sports events will be allowed till July 31.
