TAMIL NADU: (IMD) ISSUED RED ALERT FOR THREE DISTRICT

DUE TO HEAVY RAIN FORECAST


On Wednesday The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert in Tamil Nadu for three districts, including Chengalpattu Villupuram and Kanchipuram, and Puducherry due to the heavy rain forecast on Friday.

Total of nine districts have been issued a orange alerts which includes, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Ranipet.

Director General of Police (DGP), C Sylendra Babu, has been instructed the district SPs and other officials to already be prepared with preventive measures ahead for the rain. 

Fom the fishermen’s community volunteers are also instructed to be ready with rescue boats.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai as per the latest bullitin, the cyclone christened ‘Mandous’ lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal and moved nearly west-northwestwards during the past six hours with a speed of 6 kmph and lay centre about 500 km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 580 km southeast of Chennai.

On Thursday the district administration of Tiruvarur and Thanjavur has declared a holiday for schools due to the heavy rain forecast. The teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are deployed in six districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for relief and rescue work.
