Tanishq attacked over ad promoting the message of cracker free Diwali
Nearly, a month ago, prominent TATA Jewellery brand Tanishq beautified and highlighted the concept of communal harmony and interfaith marriages which was not well received by certain section of audience and the brand was trolled on social media. Once again, the eminent jewellery brand has been attacked by netizens for the new commercial promoted by the company, which glorified the message of Green Diwali.
The advertisement which has now been withdrawn stars Neena Gupta, Sayani Gupta, Alaya Furniturewala and Nimrat Kaur. The ad depicts Diwali plans of four women amidst this festive season. They have been depicted in beautiful, royal and celebratory attires headed to embrace the occasion with their loved ones and surfacing the idea of cracker free celebration. Sayani Gupta said, "Definitely no crackers. No one should light crackers. I am hoping to meet my mom this time. Lots of diyas and laughter. Positivity in the air." Others have been portrayed promoting the same belief. Neena Gupta had been emphasizing on dressing up nicely while Jawani Jaaneman actress Alaya F had the idea of eating lots of sweets and spending time with close friends.
Several social media enthusiasts thought this idea has curbed down the spirit of Diwali, and Tanishq had no authority to guide people on how to celebrate festivals. Consumerism should not kill or target the rituals and practices of a religion.
Netizens are protesting the idea building pressure over the company to apologize and take the video down. #boycotttanishq has been trending again mustering opposition against the company and their products. Amidst the pandemic Pollution and poor air quality index have been important issues this year on Diwali and the ad aimed to highlight a greener and healthier approch towards celebrating Diwali, though the concept seemed to have backfired.
